Teleferic cable car up the mountain takes about 15 minutes. Once you get there, with your head for heights is the quirky toboggan ride that takes you approximately 2km down hill. Here you can either walk into to Funchal or take a return cab. Cable car for 2 €14 return Toboggan for 2 person €35 Taxi depends upon where you want dropping - ours was a distance €20

Paid 30 euros for the basket ride (toboggan) great experience but disappointed to be asked for a tip at the end of the , not really on after paying already, should be stamped out immediately

Whilst the tropical gardens may not be my thing the toboggan ride back down was amazing. Be prepared to wait. We waited at least an hour for the ride down. Be prepared for the “official” photograph vendor when you reach the end. If you get a taxi back down to Funchal it could be worth asking the price first and the meter in the taxi was set at zero. You will need to wait also for the cable go to go up especially summer months.
