Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino, Signagi, Georgia Bodbe convent is early Medieval church which houses the grave of St. Nino, one of the most remarkable female figures who is credited to converting Georgia to Christianity in 326.
According to some manuscripts,Saint Nino was born in Cappadocia, a Roman province in present day Turkey. She was a niece of Saint George. When she was twelve, her devout parents left her in the care of a nun for her religious upbringing who taught her about Christ's life and his suffering. Nino learned how Christ's Robe, His Seamless Tunic had arrived in Georgia. She was convicted to pray to the Virgin Mary, asking to be allowed to travel to Iberia, over 1500 miles away, to venerate the Sacred Tunic removed from Christ before his crucifixion.Mary heard Nino's prayers, and appeared to her in a dream, telling her to go to that land to preach the Gospel of Jesus, and Mary would be her protector and she presented her with a cross of grapevines.
When Nino awoke, she was holding the cross in her hand which tied securely with her own hair. This was the cross she made many miracles in Georgia and spread Christianity throughout the country
Bodbe church is a three-nave basilica with a truncated long axis, typical of Georgian churches, the interior is adorned with nineteenth-century murals and fragments of paintings dating from the twelfth to seventeenth centuries. Despite wars, earthquakes, and alterations, Bodbe Cathedral has survived and nowadays it is an active nunnery 40 minutes

Sighnaghi was constructed as a fortress, designed to protect eastern Georgia from incursions stemming from nearby Dagestan. Dramatically situated along the slopes of a large bluff, the walls extend for a great distance over the nearby hills, a far echo of the Great Wall in China. The wall has 23 towers, each named for a nearby town at the end of the road that passes through each of the six gates. 60 minutes

An English friend(an a colleague) of mine visiting Georgia kindly asked me to help him organize several day trips for us a month ago.I decided to choose a travel agency recommended by by a hotel where my friend was staying at.
We were happy with all the services provided by a tour organiser-excellent car and a very experienced guide, very well planned-out agenda and sights.
Our wine tour was a real highlight of our three-day-long tour with them but other two-up in the Caucasus Mountains and the other-visiting the cave town were equally nice and informative.
