Please note that is is a demanding tour with 5 hours of hike. Getting to the Ice Cave is very challenging, but the reward is equally great! On this tour, you will go further than other glacier hiking tours go. You will traverse the Falljökull outlet glacier and visit a unique and natural ice cave, only accessible to those in the company of an experienced glacier guide. With a maximum group size of 8 participants, we can guarantee an amazing and personal experience on the glacier. The tour begins at Skaftafell Base Camp where you will board the Glacier Bus, taking you to the glacier terminal face. You will be fitted with all necessary glacier gear, free of charge. After a short hike to the edge of the glacier, you start your way traversing the magnificent glacier tongue, full of deep crevasses, amazing ice formations and deep water cauldrons. When you reach the cave, you will have enough time to get all the photos you want, before you head back over the glacier to the bus.

Me and my friend did the 5 hour Ice Cave tour and we really loved it! Soffia was our guide and even though we couldn’t see the cave because it was flooded (we knew that in advance, still decided to go on the tour), it was a great experience! We hiked along the outskirt glacier and saw truly beautiful things. Soffia explained everything really well and made the tour funnier and adventurous. All in all, we recommend this tour and felt totally safe with our guide and the whole mountain guide team!

We did this through Arctic Adventures very well organised. Everything was explained before you left the base. Guide Gustavia was great very knowledgeable. I was a little nervous but really didn’t need to be it was magical to be on a glacier that won’t be there in that position in 30 years makes you realise how fragile nature is. Would definitely recommend. No matter what age or ability they cater for all.

This definitely fell short of my expectations unfortunately. Calling it an ice cave tour is a bit of a stretch seeing that there is only one cave you will see at the end and you basically pop in to take a look and then come out. If you were looking for a workout while on your vacation, it was a rather challenging walk across the glacier. However, if you were looking for a true Iceland ice cave experience like I was, I would go elsewhere. The photos also show people in the cool ice crevices, we only got to go into one crevice for a quick second.
