Johnny Arizona was a great host on our car. Very informative about history and the Grand Canyon and about Bucky and his life In Arizona.

We had a great trip, but. When we purchased our seats we were told of the beautiful train ride to the canyon, the joy of watching the scenery pass by out large view windows. Wrong! Well, half wrong. Approximately half of the seats in first class seating have no, that is no, view out of the car. These viewless seats look at the solid wall between windows and seat backs surrounding them. The seat backs are so high that you can't even see out any other windows you just see seat backs. We paid almost $500 for a scenic trip to the Grand Canyon but, what we would have received was a 2.5 hour train ride each way with a view of seat backs. If we would have been informed about this condition that occurs on about half the first class seating we would have made our decision to take the trip accordingly.
Our story has a very happy ending however. We spoke with our car steward who connected us to Carl, the train supervisor I believe was his title. He was excellent. He could see we were very unhappy with the situation we had been put into and took immediate action to remedy the problem. There were no better seats available in first class so he found excellent seats for us in coach class. Literally every seat in coach class has a good view out since the are no long sections of blank wall between the windows. We had a wonderful ride to and from the canyon in this car. Our car stewart, Emmitt, was great, high energy, positive and dedicated to trains.
In closing, I want to highly commend Carl for his personal manner and problem solving skills in turning very unhappy customers who felt they were being cheated into satisfied boosters for the company with one caveat. Tell customers that their seats have no, or limited views out if that is the case with their assigned seating BEFORE they buy.

We love trains. The ride was comfortable and entertaining! First class gave us nice snacks both ways. Be aware: they do not give you a bottle of water. BRING YOUR OWN . You can refill it in the train station at the canyon. IF YOU HAVE MOBILITY CHALLENGES, consider bringing a wheelchair/walker with seat There is a paved switchback to get to the village. Some people were struggling. You are at 7000 feet. You don’t want to be stranded at the train station. There are no views and nothing to do! Once there, you are at the village consisting of several hotels, small visitor center (not main one), and you can walk along paved path at rim for the beautiful views you came for. They tell you not to take the park shuttles as you only have 3 1/2 hours there. If you want to see more, consider one of their bus tours. Our train carried 800 passengers. It was busy at the canyon. Overall, we had a nice day.
