Fantastic trip. Scenery spectacular. Different to travelling by car. Service on the train was great. All the staff were very helpful. Booking our bags on at Greymouth was not a problem.

What a beautiful experience! we boarded the Tranz Alpine Train for a comfortable ride through all of the beautiful terrain that we have enjoyed. The train, being a scenic train, was equipped with earphones so we could listen to a historical narrative as we traveled across the country. Crossing the South Island from Greymouth to Christchurch, the Tranz Alpine is considered one of the worlds greatest train journeys. We traveled from west to the east of the through Arthur's Pass National Park. From the comfort of our carriage we saw the lush beech forest, deep river valleys and the spectacular peaks of the Southern Alps in the distance. We descended to the windswept Canterbury Plains before arriving in the city of Christchurch.

We enjoyed a very relaxing and scenic trip without any hiccups. I have travelled on the train once before during the cooler months so would recommend this time of year for a more photographic journey.
