Half Dome Guided Backpacking Tour - Yosemite National Park

Do the half dome and request Tyler as your guide!!! Great trip with lots of good food. It’s perfect if you’re looking at getting into backpacking.

Discovery Trek CANCELED AND NO REFUND From the moment I booked with Adam there was no communication after purchase was completed. No confirmation before or close to dates of hiking. The parks were not allowing patrons without a reservation. I flew in from from across the country and reserved a room outside the park the night before and a night after the trip. The guide was kind and prepared a nice meal and handed tents, sleeping pads and sleeping bags. NOW, let me tell you.. the equipment provided: Tent was torn but fine sleeping pad was flat SLEEPING BAG… it was filthy dirty and smelled of foul body odor. Everybody said sorry the next morning as mine must have been in some persons arm pits for months and I was the last to get my bag. The next morning the guide asked to use my instant coffee because he had forgot to buy coffee for our 4 day trip. ???? He helped us pack the backpack that was provided and said the food would be dispersed in our packs for the trip. The food was not packed… or dispersed and was left behind in the bear locker do we wouldn’t eat on our hike??? Next We were to drive to a hikers parking lot following one another. On the way to stay out hike the guide phoned and said he needed us all to pull off into another parking lot. This is where the guide said, Adam had told him the conditions were not favorable for the hike and he canceled the trip. We asked to use/rent the tent since there was no Accommodations available in the park except camping. The only thing we couldn’t buy at the outdoor store was a tent. So this forced us to another town outside of the park for lodging and food. I called to rebook for a date in the summer of 2022. Approximately one month prior to the scheduled date, I called to confirm the trip. Adam, bitterly avoided the fact that this trip has been scheduled. After a lengthy discussion he said he didn’t have the permits for that weekend and we were rebooked again. Once getting to CA I learned that one of us had tested positive for Covid and was not in any condition to hike. Knowing that I was exposed, I called Adam to reschedule. He said that at least I should go on the trip even though the other hiker with me was sick. I don’t think it was right and declined. He said, I’m sorry and canceled and said there was no refund and could not be rescheduled. POINT: I would never use him again! We have booked several hikes and tours with different packers, such as Mount Rainier , 2 peaks in Mexico, Mt. Shasta (just to name a few). I really felt that I should let people know just what it was like even before I flew out again this year. This time …. I brought all my own gear and only needed the guide for safety, permits and food. I believe that Adam has bad business ethics and was happy to take somebody’s money with nothing in return. Frankly, he could have offered to provide the permit to us at a later date if he was unable to provide the service that was contracted.

Everything about this trip was perfect. I’ve always wanted to hike half dome but I didn’t have the time to do my own research, buy gear, get permits or plan a route. Doing a guided hike was a perfect solution and I will absolutely do it again. Keenan was an excellent guide and was prepared for everything. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable, accommodating and fun. I can’t wait to do another trip with him.
