  • Temple of Literature & National University, Hanoi, Vietnam
    Start the city tour with a visit to the Temple of Literature. Originally built in honour of Confucius by King Ly Thai Thong in 1070, a university was added to the grounds six years later. The university provided education to the royal family and children of the aristocracy or "mandarins". The University remained here until King Gia Long moved the country's administrative capital from Hanoi to Hue at the beginning of the 19th century.

    We'll head to the Hoa Lo Prison museum. Used by French Colonists for political prisoners till 1954 and later by North Vietnam for American POWs, the prison complex was sarcastically nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton" by American pilots during Vietnam War (1954-1975). Famous ex-prisoners of war include Pete Peterson (the first US ambassador to a unified Vietnam in 1995), and US Senator John McCain.

  • St. Joseph's Cathedral, Hanoi, Vietnam
    Our next stop will be the largest and oldest church in Hanoi. St Joseph's Cathedral was built in 1886 with an architectural style often compared to the Notre Dame de Paris, this Gothic Revival church is not only a religious site, but is also a popular photo shoot backdrop for local teenagers.

We had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide, An, was excellent. She was very informative and made it a great tour. Would highly recommend this tour. The pho for lunch was fantastic.

We enjoyed our tour of the city of Hanoi with our knowledgeable guide, An. It was great having a driver who got us safely through each location. We started with the Temple of Literature which was built in honor of Confucius in 1970. It became a University accepting students from the aristocracy society in 1076. We continued our tour visiting a traditional tea house where we heard about the importance of tea to the Vietnam Culture. We had delicious Lotus Flower Tea with traditional Green Bean Cake. We stopped at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton “. This place holds a dark place in history first as prison used by the French to imprison Vietnamese people and later used by the Vietnam soldiers to imprison American Prisoners of War. We then visited the beautiful Ngoc Son Temple located at the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake. Our guide, An made this experience even more special by sharing stories and traditions from that era. stopped at Pho Thin a local lunch spot for some delicious Pho, Chinese donuts, and ice tea. We finished our tour visiting the impressive St. Joseph Cathedral which had a French Style Gothic Architecture. We can not say enough how much we enjoyed the tour and our personable and professional guide, An.
