We booked this trip a while back and had paid in advance. Since the tour included pickup in Hanoi, but no way of contact other than calling, we assumed we’d hear from the tour operator, once the departure date got closer. We ended up sending an email about 4 days prior to departure to ask how the pickup would be organized. We never heard back. A day before departure we finally had the chance to call them and tell them where we’re staying so they can pick us up. The entire thing sounded and looked very chaotic as they didn’t ask for names or booking references. In the end it worked out though and we did end up having a great time.
Due to low season we were only 10 people on the boat, which made the activities such as kayaking and swimming a bit more relaxing. Due to Halong Bay being so popular, the cave and Titop island were quite full despite it being low season. But it’s still worth it just to see Halong Bay; truly one of the most impressive places we’ve been to on our trip throughout the country. The rooms were spacious and clean, the shower was awesome. What was most impressive was the food though. They seem to have a great chef whose sole objective it is to make all passengers gain 2 pounds over the trip.
Unfortunately we didn’t do all the activities listed in the itinerary, nor did we do them in order (which is fine anyways). There was no option of Tai Chi and squid fishing was also not done because there are no squids in February (which is also fine, but maybe it would be nice to know beforehand)
Drinks on the boat are quite expensive (2,50$/60k vnd for beer and Softdrinks) and you have to pay a service fee of 1$ per drink that you bought on shore and want to consume on the boat.
Overall I would still recommend this tour because the boat is great, the staff are nice, the food is amazing and the activities we did do were also great. For there being too many people the tour can’t be held responsible and they are making the best of the situation.
