The photogenic incense sticks From early morning everyday, the incense sticks are shredded from bamboos. Then the dyeing process takes place, when a layer of red color is applied onto almost a half of the stick. The sticks are then dried out in the sun, in bundles. These bundles are arranged to look like small umbrellas in order to get as much light as possible. The sticks create a layer of deep red color on the photos. And any subject at the font, such as a worker, would stand out really well and eye-catching. Later in the day, the sticks are collected, tied in bigger bundles before loading onto small trucks and travel to other places.

    Our Vietnam photography tour destination today is a village located 1.5 hour driving from Hanoi. This is where the locals have long involved in making incense sticks. Then, the sticks travel to all over Vietnam to find themselves burning on family alters or in temples. Photographs of these sticks have been published on some famed channels, including CNN. And some others gained awards from Smithsonian photo contests.

No joke, you won't find a more authentic tour in Vietnam. Whether you are into photography or not, this is so awesome nonetheless. Mike is an amazing photographer and will help/show you everything you need to do to walk away with the best photo possible. He also knows everyone in the village so we were able to see different ways of making incense and the different jobs people would do in the incense making process. We had the entire village to ourselves(as far as tourists) and we felt so lucky to be there. Mike's english is incredible and is full of Vietnam information so there is no question he can't answer for you, about the incense tour or about somewhere else in Vietnam. He also does photography tours throughout Vietnam, so if that is something you are interested in, definitely ask him about it! He takes you to all the photogenic places in Vietnam, and there are a lot!

Absolutely an amazing experience! Mike was an awesome tour guide. We had plenty of time shooting all the pictures we wanted. He was friends with literally everyone in the village, so he showed us around the village and we were able to learn and see their everyday life, which was so fun! He also kindly took portrait pictures of us with his really good camera and sent us all the pictures the next day! He even edited some of the pictures for us. I have nothing to say! This was one of the best tours I joined and it was so worth it. Thanks Mike for a great memory!

Absolutely loved the photography tours with Mike. A true cultural experience and probably my highlight to my North Vietnam trip. Mike was an excellent guide with great knowledge about the village and photography- he would also give us really handy tips and ideas for shots so that we would get the most out of every location. His communication is excellent and it was so easy to travel around the village as the locals have a great connect with him so we would feel welcome everywhere we went. Everything was very efficiently organised and the tour ran so smoothly. My group was altogether so impressed by Mike that we are looking to do more tours with him in the future.
