We had a great time. Mel is an excellent tour guide. We walked in lava flows. Stood by steam vents. And walked through a lava tube. We also went to Black Sand Beach where several turtles were sunbathing.

Mel was great! He was very informative and educational. We learned a ton of information about the history of the mountain and the surrounding terrain.

So we had the unfortunate timing of rain for the trip out. It was a down pour from the second we got to the east side of the island. What we had, though, was an incredible tour guide by the name of Mel. While we couldn't see much of the craters, he did everything to get us some wonderful places in the break through the rain. He always gave us options to get out in the rain if we wanted and gave us detailed information of each site. Our last place we went to, the Thurston Lava Chute, was still pouring but Mel gave us strong recommendations to explore if we could bare the rain. On top of all this, his knowledge of the history, science and general Hawaii facts was awesome! I would love to do this tour with him again on a more sunny day.
