  • Please advise your parka size (small, medium, large, x-large or xx-large) and choice of meal at time of booking. If you do not indicate this at the time of booking, you will be required to call and advise them of this information directly.
  • There is minimal walking on this tour, the maximum being about 150 yards
  • The access road to Mauna Kea is four-wheel drive only, so it can be bumpy. The custom off-road transit vans will get you to the top and back in safety and comfort. The transit vans can carry a maximum of 12 passengers
  • Snow is seasonal at Mauna Kea, with the heaviest snowfall occurring during the winter months

Extraordinary evening star gazing from 13,000 ft; the bucket list is a smidge lighter. Our very rapid temperature swing from 84 down to 14 and oxygen deprivation was naturally expected but… Yawza! The first thing you notice is the lack of “twinkle” from lack of atmosphere making for a much clearer view. The moon is so bright, you need to shield your eyes to see other stars. Loved the length of time you can easily follow a satellite move across the sky….literally minutes. Galaxy Andromeda, Saturn, binary stars (think Star Wars planet Tatooine) and the moons surface were my highlights.

Bret was awesome. He ensured we knew what to expect with the altitude change and was very attentive and friendly. The views above the clouds were phenomenal. The sunset was majestic to experience. There were so many stars that made the stargazing absolutely amazing. With Bret’s expertise in locating the various stars, it made for a wonderous evening of looking up at the sky.

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the trip. Hawaiian traditions, history, and of course astronomy. My husband is our family astronomy nerd and Adam impressed him with his expertise and enthusiasm. I believe Adam really enjoys his job! The time spent stargazing was just right and everyone was happy. The sunset experience was memorable, and my pictures are amazing. I was also appreciative of the helpful tips he offered to prevent altitude sickness or at least how to manage mild symptoms.
