This Trip was a nightmare for me. When doing the rafting we crashed against a rock, and the instructor and "most experienced" person on the boat, just flew over and landed over me (top of my head). I blacked out for a few seconds and took a while to recover, later on in the Hospital I was diagnosed with a head concussion; I needed months of physiotherapy to help with the pain caused and it took months for all symptoms to disappear. I contacted Mohaka Rafting requesting a consideration for reimbursement of my payment, given the fact that this could have been avoided if the instructor had hold tighter to the roap on the boat and the fact that I had been unwell and had to take sick and unpaid leave at work in order to recover. They came back saying that "accidents happen all the time" and that I should contact Maritime NZ. Maritime NZ ruled out this accident as negligence, hence Mohaka River company did not process a refund.
Despite they were not forced to pay me back, I was very disappointed with the fact that they did not considered to refund out of a moral or social standard. I would never use them again, and would recommend everyone to think twice on all the risks and liabilities involved before using this service/experience. (The accident happened in 2018 and for years I was very hesitant to write this review, however I would not like for this to happen again- hope this review will give me some closure, and Mohaka Rafting can have better training and accident prevention actions). Thanks
