Your local guide will cover everything from the past to the present, explaining Kowloon’s transformation through to the modern day. In Sham Shui Po you will ‘eat like a local’ as your professional guide introduces you to a range of local street food including two restaurants that have received Michelin ratings with Bib Gourmand awards. Next, you will explore Mong Kok, the Goldfish Market, and Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront where, if time allows, you can watch the famous Hong Kong light show at 8 pm after the tour finishes.

    This is a tour about 'The Dark Side' of Hong Kong. We explore Kowloon discovering some of the 'darker' topics; poverty, triads, prostitution, grey markets. Your tour starts in Sham Shi Po, the least affluent district in Hong Kong. Don’t come here for a fancy gourmet meal. Instead, come here if you want to try Michelin-recommended noodles and snacks that won't make a dent in your pocket. Here your local guide will take you on a street food tour to discover the best local eats and introduce you to the local culture and living environment. Chung King Mansions launched as a beacon of prosperity in the jet-set era of Hong Kong. The building’s fame slid into notoriety soon after, and it has lived for 60 years in the spotlight. Many Hong Kong people avoid it, given its reputed sleazy underbelly. A social scientist wrote a book about the building after conducting a 3-year study on it and the thousands of people that pass through it every day.     Our tour ends at the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront which offers exceptional views of the Hong Kong skyline. Here we relax and discuss the history and development of the Hong Kong skyline from the early 1800s to the present day. Depending on the time of our tour you may be able to watch the Hong Kong light show which runs every day at 8 pm.

The tour guide and the info he shared was great. We learned a lot about the culture and Hong Kong. The man himself was knowledgable, very charming, and pleasant. However the food was quite bad and def not starred by anyone or anything. We were great with the street food aspect but both actual restaurants we went to were essentially a diner and the main meal was mid at best; bland, uninteresting, we all ( the whole group) struggled to find something we wanted to eat. Never was offered any dim sum. The best 2 things were the egg tart (warm from oven and delicious) and a fresh mango in the fruit market.

Guide was great, however I expected to be offered more street food and typical Hong Kong styled food. I thought he would order and let us sample a selection of different things thereby trying new foods instead of things I can get at home in Australia.

Excellent tour with Andy. He took us around to a variety of great restaurants, and we really enjoyed the food. Andy took time to explain the history and culture of some of the old Hong Kong areas and markets too. The tour is ideal to experience the culinary delights of Hong Kong. Good value.
