While this isn’t my first visit to Houston i always like to discover something new. And though i invest a lot of time in research and visit a LOT of restaurants (plus i’m a chef myself), i still like to visit places with locals. It gives you a different perspective. In this case of downtown area. Frankly I’ve been there before and my first inclination was always to leave it asap. Not so much with Rory. He is so passionate about the area, the food and his job, it was intoxicating ;-). He texted us beforehand making sure we got suitable clothing and everything (which is an amazing touch considering we are all adults). The tour started in front of incredible coffee shop where i had hands down THE BEST cinnamon roll in my entire life. After that we had amazing tacos, stopped at a bbq place, grocery store and vietnamese restaurant. There was some walking in between (definitely not a problem in my opinion!) which was good and lots of interesting facts and information. Rory also made a list with things to do/see/ visit for a meal or drink in Houston, which is an additional bonus. All in all this tour was an eye opener for me. I went to the places i would have normally totally ignored (sad to admit it) and more than that i’m definitely heading back and bringing my friends with me (who live in Houston btw and have never heard of those incredible eateries). It was a blast and very refreshing to see someone who is enjoying what he’s doing so much! In combination with all the gorgeous food we had it was the highlight of my trip. Definitely a must when in Houston!!!
