The fortification was built between 1584 and 1585 to protect Puig de Vila, the highest part of the Ibizan capital, which extended over a surface area of 10 hectares and a perimeter of 1,800 metres. Since 1999 that it is considered a World Heritage Site by the Unesco.

    Zeer mooi een aanrader voor iedereen. Best bezoeken op een dag met niet teveel wind. Wij bezochten het met veel wind en op het hoogste punt was dit niet aangenaam.

    Eine der schönsten Städte die es zu bewundern gibt. Wir haben am Hafen angelegt und die Stadt zu Fuß durchquert. Viele kleine schöne Gassen mit unendlichen kleinen Läden laden zum shoppen ein. Am Hafen gibt es unendlich viele Gaststätten zum Essen oder auch nur zum beobachten vom Geschehen. Alles ist sehr sauber und Menschen sind freundlich hier. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.
