Our best seller Ice Cave Tour! A short tour that allows you to experience the stunning blue caves of Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe. On this tour we venture to one of the more accessible ice caves for an encounter with ancient blue ice. The conditions of the ice caves are constantly changing. During the warmer summer months the ice caves are being formed by melted glacier water. In autumn each year we start looking for ice caves. Being a local company, we began searching for ice caves in 90’s and our speciality is finding the very best ice cave available. The Ice Cave Tour is our easy option, as our trusted super jeeps take us very close to the ice cave, meaning minimal walking. This trip suits most people and is perfect if you have a packed schedule or if you are worried about arctic winter weather. The super jeep journey to reach the cave is an adventure on its own. Once we reach our destination you will have time to experience a beautiful blue Ice Cave!

    We will meet you at the meeting location, before heading on Super Jeep transfer to the base of the glacier and then up to the ice cave. You will not have to walk far to enter the ice cave, but once there you can enjoy the gorgeous blue ice.

  • Operates in most weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Please come in warm and waterproof clothing and good hiking boots.
  • Your safety is of the utmost importance. Ice Cave tours are weather dependent. Sometimes tours have to be cancelled with short notice due to weather conditions or safety concerns or. After periods of adverse weather, the caves can become flooded or unsafe to enter. If this happens we will always do our best to offer an alternative such as a glacier hike if weather conditions allow, however if this is not suitable we will also always offer a full refund.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

It was an amazing experience. We were lucky with the weather and even saw a group of reindeers. The ice cave itself is marvelous and enables you to explore the biggest glacier in Europe!

Our tour guide, Thor, was amazing! He gave us information about how the glacier has evolved over the years, answering any questions we had. Even though, there were a lot of people that day (there was a storm the day before, so a lot of people went the day after), Thor made sure to wait until everyone was out of the cave for us to experience it for ourselves! Only downside was that the time inside the cave was shorter than expected (probably because of the storm the day before and that they had to accommodate a lot of people). Only tip I would give is to check recent pictures of people that went because I was told that cave entrances can change depending on the year or time year. This happens due to the fact that the glacier "moves" yearly. So one person's pictures might not be the same for you on your trip. I did the Ice cave tour but in hindsight, I think I would do the Ice cave Discovery next time to have more time inside the caves exploring. Overall, I would recommend it and I would do it again!

We enjoyed our experience with LocalGuides. Our guide was very passionate about glaciers and the environment surrounding the glaciers. He is a photographer and even took some great shots with my camera, changed some of the settings for optimal shots
