This is your private and personal tour. Your guide will pick you up in Isafjordur and take you to our stables in Engidalur. There you will be given the proper safety gear and instructions on how to ride the Icelandic horse in our indoor arena. When our guide feels you are ready it´s off to the beautiful Engidalur valley on horseback. Our guide has a camera on you during the whole ride so you can relive it again when you get home. Pictures, video footage and transportation are all included in the price.

    Beginners prepare for a very informative time since this tour is designed as a lesson also. The first half of the tour will be where you will learn all the basics of Icelandic horsemanship (inside our arena). Then we will head out for a wonderful Valley Ride. In the valley ride you will be introduced to the beauty of Engidalur. We will go at the pace you are comfortable with and take all precautions possible to make sure that you feel secure. The tour guide will have a Gopro camera mounted on his/her helmet so your tour will be documented for your pleasure.

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately
  • Subject to favorable weather conditions. If canceled due to poor weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date or full refund. Cancellations by us are because of high winds according to our standards. We do not cancel due to cold weather or rain unless we feel that it is not safe for our guests or our horses.
  • Minimum age is 13 years
  • Refunds will not be issued if tour/activity is missed due to late or non-arrival of cruise ship
  • Our guide speaks English, German and French
  • Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately

This experience is non-refundable and cannot be changed for any reason. If you cancel or ask for an amendment, the amount you paid will not be refunded.

Amazing experience. Great hosts. First time riding horses and it was great. The horses were very calm and nice. Would recommend for everyone to come and try

Super fun and adventurous thing to do around here! The horses were specially chosen for you (they are all so cute) and there was time to do some bonding first before riding out. Our guide Veerle was really experienced and very helpful with her tips and tricks and she made it a great event for me and my friends :)

I booked this excursion six months in advance. A few days before the excursion, I received an email from Paypal for a refund of the deposit amount from 'Massi þrif ehf' and "refund for overbooked tour". I deduced it was from Fosshestar and sent an email asking the status. Here is the response: "I'm afraid the tour was already booked and I just noticed it yesterday I am very sorry This is a very small operation and we only have 1 guide and I take care of everything else. I have just been overloaded this summer and I made mistakes. Your tour was not the only one" It was lucky that I had WiFi on the cruise ship. I do not typically; otherwise, on the day of the excursion I would have been scrambling to get an early tender to get to the meeting place and wondering why Fosshestar was a no-show. It was a private excursion just for me and one might suspect that Fosshestar got a more lucrative booking so canceled mine. I am very disappointed. I would not have written this review if they would have at the very least emailed an apology initially. Be sure to confirm your booking before you leave home!
