Get insights about the history of Goa dating back to the era of empires and dynasties This tour highlights the kaleidoscope of history to be found in the hinterland of South Goa. Immerse yourself in pre-Portuguese history dating back over 1000 years, when Chandor then known as Chandrapur was a buzzing trade center. The experience begins at the Church of Nossa Senhora de Belem in Chandor and then leads into sites and ruins of historical importance that date back over 1000 years, followed by the scenic view of the Kushavati River. We visit two heritage houses that predates the Portuguese era and contains interesting artifacts which highlight Kadamba era. Please note that this is not a walking trail and guests need to have transportation for this trail.

    This experience starts from the Church of Nossa Senhora de Belem in Chandor. This is not a walking trail and guests need transportation during this trail. When built originally in the 17th century, it was called Our Lady of Remedies. However, after it was reconstructed following a collapse in the mid 20th century, it was renamed to its current title. The Church of Nossa Senhora de Belém is located at the main intersection of the town and just across the Braganza House building.

  • Menezes Braganza House, Chandor, India
    Located in Chandor Village, Braganza House was first built in the late 16th Century and rebuilt tot the present state in the 18th century. This huge house is situated on one side of the village square. It has now separate houses, with a common entrance. The artefacts collected by the family over a number of years, have added to the beauty of the house.

    The chapel is situated on a small hillock about 500mts on the front side of the church. It was built by Francisco Fernandes on 3rd July, 1748. It was rebuilt in 1758 and established on 14th March, 1760.

We did the Chandor Heritage Tour with Alita and had such a great time! She's super knowledgeable, really enthusiastic, and tells stories in a way that makes history come alive. If you’re curious, this tour is a fun way to dig into its rich past. Since it was pretty hot in May, Alita made sure we took plenty of breaks and always found shady spots to cool off. She even treated us to some tasty Goan snacks and a refreshing Kolam drink at the cutest little café in town. And a bonus, watching a Christian Goan wedding.

We did the Chandor heritage trail with Alita. The tour takes you to south Goa in the old capital of Goa. Alita is a good storyteller and she knows how to tell you small local legends as well as historical facts. She took us to different heritage typical goan houses. If you like heritage walk but you want to do something else than everyone does, you have to go to south Goa and do that walk! A snack at the end is a perfect surprise and a good way to have a chat with Alita. she also took us to a local market and we get there goan choriz sausages.

Had an incredible experience exploring the charming village of Chandor with Alita! Her deep knowledge of history, engaging storytelling, and passion for heritage brought the past to life in the most captivating way. The walk was well-paced, immersive, and filled with fascinating insights from the Branganza house to the Fernandes house to the Chapel and an old Saptakoteshwar temple now in ruins & made me appreciate Goa beyond its beaches. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves history, architecture, and authentic local experiences!
