This heritage walk will bring alive the glorious and eventful past of Panjim. We will trace the morphing of the city from a sleepy little retreat for the elite to become the capital of Goa in 1843 after the outbreak of Plague in Old Goa.

  • Fontainhas, Panjim, India
    We begin our walk from the Latin quarters of Fontainhas, the residential quarters designed for the Portuguese Bureaucrats and servants. This was one of the earliest settlements in Panaji city. The quarter has retained its heritage look with the small crowded lanes flanked by the typical bright Portuguese styled houses. The walk takes us past a wishing well, Chapel of St. Sebastian and the Temple on the hill dedicated to lord Maruti and the Geetanjali Gallery of modern art exhibitions.

  • Sao Tome Old Quarter, Panjim, India
    The Panjim walk leads us to the square which got its name from Tobacco trading over the river. Later this square served as the police headquarters, a customs and mint area and currently accommodates the General Post Office and the Sao Tome Chappel. We walk past bright coloured buildings set on the backdrop of the river Mandovi. We will also walk to the Mermaid Garden and statue of the world famous hypnotist Abbe Faria.

  • Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Panjim, India
    The Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is often used to represent Goa in Bollywood films. The church was constructed on this hill for the sailors in the year 1541 after demolishing a temple. Later in the early 17th century it was renovated and constructed in the Baroque style of architecture. The church houses a large church bell in Goa that was brought here from the fallen monastery of Old Goa.

We booked this tour because we were satisfied with the company and hat a nice experience already in Chennai. Also we loved the Panjim walk: Our guide Sawani was really nice and knowledgeable. She gave us a great overview about the history of Panjim and whole Goa. Can recommend!

The panjim walk was a fantastic one. Our guide made sure we learnt a lot about the Goan heritage in a fun way. He was very well read and made it very interesting with anecdotes and lesser known remarkable facts. The architecture was outstanding and it really transported us to a bygone Era. Highly recommended

We had a great time exploring Panjim with an awesome guide. 5 Senses ensured the guide met us on time. The guide was very passionate and answered all our questions, He learnt a lot about living in Goa and its rich and mixed heritage. The latin quarters were outstanding. The architecture was unique and very quaint and different from the rest of Goa. The Immaculate church was another memorable visit. It was a fantastic heritage walk where we learnt a lot about Goa!
