There is no better way to see hidden parts of Zakynthos than a 4X4 safari. Your Jeep guide/driver will pick you up from your resort and take you on an excursion of discovery. There are many historic and scenic stops en route, and you will hear all about the history, culture, churches, monasteries, and many other great facts about the island. Around 17:00 will be the time of your return to your resort.

  • Skinari, Greece
    First stop is Agia Marina village. Get the opportunity for a short coffee break before heading to the small traditional village Giri, surrounded by a lush landscape with pine and olive trees. Reach the highest point of Zakynthos Vrachionas by driving completely off road to enjoy the breathtaking view of the island. Continuing mostly off-road, pass by the oldest olive tree in Exo Chora and arrive afterwards at another traditional village for a 1-hour lunch break (optional). Next on the trip is the famous view over Smugglers' Bay. Take some pictures of this magnificent view. Driving up to the north of the island through the village of Vollimes, you will have the possibility to make a boat trip to the Blue Caves (optional, not included), or alternatively, visit the monastery Spiliotissa in Othonies and have a swim stop at Xigia beach. The last stop of the tour is a visit to an organic family farm. It is a farm with a variety of local handmade products waiting to be tested.

We were expecting a 7 seater jeep; off-road excitement and a guide who spoke fluent English and could tell us lots of interesting and obscure things about the island. We were picked up in a medium-sized Kia. 3 generously proportioned adults were expected to squeeze onto the back seat for 7 hours. No aircon. A driver/guide who barely spoke English. It was hugely uncomfortable, so we complained (using a translation app I should add). The driver seemed astonished that we were unhappy, but called his boss at the first stop and eventually a rather ancient and mouldy Range Rover arrived. It already had passengers in it also doing the tour, so some of them were just told to swap with us and go in our original car. Though this meant we had more space (just about adequate) we felt a bit guilty and sorry for the poor folk who were then going to be squashed all day! The tour was OK. The only 'off-road' part was a section of road where (in typical Greek fashion) the tarmac ran out for a bit. Not what I was expecting. Our 2nd driver spoke much better English and was good natured and fairly entertaining but not exactly a fountain of knowledge about the island. We saw the island, stopped in few nice places - hence 3 stars ‐ but didn't go to many of the places mentioned in the brochure. We booked through Oreo travel but be aware they're all just agents selling places on the exact same tours so doesn't matter who you book with. And they will always try to make you pay cash.

Der Fahrer hat uns als erste pünktlich abgeholt. Wir wurden angewiesen (54 und 58 Jahre alt) uns ganz hinten im Jeep auf die (Not) Sitze zu setzen, die man nur mit Verrenkungen erreichen konnte und man völlig eingequetscht gesessen hat. Beim nächsten Stopp zur Abholung von weiteren Leuten haben wir uns geweigert, weiter hinten zu sitzen. Also mussten die nächsten, die eingestiegen sind nach ganz hinten. Es wurden 6 Leute plus Fahrer in dieses Fahrzeug gestopft. Wir haben dann immer im Wechsel hinten gesessen, um die Fahrt zu überstehen. Die absolute Frechheit war am Ende des Tages das Abladen auf einer Organic Farm mit Verkaufsveranstaltung, die nicht Bestandteil der Beschreibung war. Wir haben weder auf den Verkaufsständen auf dem Markt in Anafonitria stöbern können (oder war die Verkaufsveranstaltung damit gemeint?) erlebt, noch den Blick auf das Leben in den genannten Dörfern genießen dürfen. Alles in allem ein ernüchterndes Erlebnis!

Het was een hele mooie tocht. Met leuke stops. Een super chauffeur. We hebben die dag veel van het eiland gezien.
