5-Day Amazon Exploration in Iquitos at Curassow Amazon Lodge

Definitely make Curassow part of your plans to visit the jungle!! Great way to experience the Amazonian jungle! Curassow picked us up from the airport in an air-conditioned van and took us through the city of Iquitos to a speedboat that took us up the Amazon River. Curassow is located off one of its tributaries somewhat near a couple remote villages. A smaller motorized boat was used to travel to/from the lodge for various excursions or village visits. The employees were always so helpful in assisting everyone on and off the boats. The lodge itself if very neat and well kept, with fresh sheets and towels in the rooms. The common space houses a large table for eating meals as well as hammocks and outdoor couches for lounging. This space is a great way to converse with other guests and meet new people staying at the lodge from around the world with such amazing experiences! Enclosed with screens that prevent bugs, it is especially peaceful at night where it cools off or during night time rains. Various dishes are served for all three meals. Tea and coffee are always available, and the chef does such a great job serving fresh and plentiful food! The staff is so kind, and does their best to make your experience in the Amazon everything you hope it will be! Excursions and jungle walks are so accessible. All activities can be tailored to your activity preferences. The wildlife is absolutely incredible, and all the guides are so knowledgeable at spotting different nuances or hiding creatures! We spent a good amount of time at the local villages and with the people who live there. These villages are accessible by boat from Curassow, and it is amazing to meet such good and hardworking people! There are several projects occurring to help these people earn educations and live healthier lives, and Curassow plays a large role in helping make these projects possible!

I spent a wonderful 5days at this lodge and had an amazing experience. The excursions were really good and Mr Leo was a very knowledgable guide. Also the rest of the staff go all the way to make it a happy stay. Rooms are basic and there is no wifi, which could put off some travellers, but didn't mind me at all. Although I really could have done with a warm shower now and then :).

Wie waren im vergangenen August in Iquitos und hatten schon vorab den 5-Tages Ausflug in den Dschungel mit Unterbringung in der Currasow Lodge gebucht. Wie geplant wurden wir im Hotel abgeholt und bereits am Büro der Lodge in Iquitos von unserem Expeditionsleiter Leo in Empfang genommen. Von dort aus ging es zum Bootsanleger, von wo wir die ca 3 Stunden dauernde spannende Fahrt mit dem Schnellboot den Amazonas hinauf zur Lodge antraten. Zusammen mit einem anderen Pärchen blieb Leo die komplette Zeit unser Betreuer und konnte nicht nur durch sein perfektes Englisch überzeugen, sondern uns vor allem durch seine unglaublichen Erfahrungen und Kenntnisse des Dschungels, dessen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt näher bringen. Wir hatten täglich volles Programm mit verschiedensten Touren, zu Fuß oder mit dem Boot von der Lodge aus. Dabei wurden wir meist nicht nur von Leo, sondern auch von einem weiteren örtlichen Mitarbeiter begleitet, so dass man sich stets sicher und gut betreut gefühlt hat. Zwischendurch hatte man aber auch Zeit sich etwas auszuruhen, wobei auch in dieser Zeit die Betreuer immer verfügbar waren, und bspw. Musik für die Gäste gemacht haben. Die Unterkunft in den eigenen Hütten war gepflegt aber spartanisch, wie es in den Dschungel passt. Die Verpflegung war top und alle Mitarbeiter waren zu jeder Zeit super freundlich und zu Späßen aufgelegt. Abends kann man mit anderen Gästen zusammensitzen und bei einem kühlen Getränk oder Cocktail spielen oder sich über die Erlebnisse des Tages austauschen. Auch die Kooperation mit der amerikanischen Hilfsorganisation zur Unterstützung eines örtlichen Dorfs ist spannend und der Ausflug dorthin gab übe einen sehr interessanten Einblick in das tatsächliche Leben im Dschungel. Alles in allem hatten wir eine unvergessliche Zeit, haben viele tolle Leute kennengelernt und vor allem den Dschungel mit all seiner Vielfalt erleben dürfen. Die tollen Tierbeobachtungen und Ausflüge werden wir nicht mehr vergessen. Wenn man also auf Luxus verzichten kann und gerne den Dschungel kennenlernen möchte, sind die Trips mit der Currasow Lodge auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen. :-)
