Where is Herculaneum? The world famous Herculaneum is 150 miles south of Rome, fairly close to Naples. It is a long day from Rome or an easy excursion from Naples or the very popular holiday area around Sorrento. . FYI :for each traveler is allowed one trolley or medium luggage ,from 6ppl up to 8ppl if there are more luggage , it need the sprinter van or two standard van with an additional cost .     Herculaneum as Pompeii was a town buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD which provide a complete and vivid picture of society and daily life of the Roman society. Herculaneum disappeared under a pyroclastic flow of volcanic mud as Pompeii was buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash and stone. You will see spacious houses shrines, baths and outside the walls and surroundings containing many fine villas such as the magnificent Villa of the Papyri. Herculaneum was a holiday resort for rich Romans from the region with its fine views of and easy access to the sea. Not included Pompeii ticket , it is an extra cost of E13pp. Under 18 is free. We recommend the guide in Herculaneum.

Highly recommended - this saved us so much time and hassle, and the air conditioned van and cold water was wonderful in the heat! Our driver Bruno was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us some great local tips. Herculaneum is also well worth visiting- maybe even better than Pompeii!
