Thousands of mule deer, elk, moose, big horn sheep and bison migrate into the valley in search of food each year along with coyotes, fox, bald and golden eagles, swans, and even packs of wolves. This gathering of wintering wildlife makes winter one of the best times to view wildlife in Jackson Hole! After a full morning in the field we will enjoy lunch together at a local eatery before heading back out for the afternoon. When available, we will take a horse drawn sleigh through the National Elk Refuge into the middle of the largest wild elk herd in North America. Following the sleigh ride, we will head back into the field to spot more wildlife. **Sleigh rides are optional.

All guests are picked up and returned to their place of lodging. We pick up at hotels, condos and private residences in Jackson and Teton Village. Your exact pick up time will be determined by your hotel location. Make sure you notify us of your lodging location at the time of booking. The Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris office will notify you of your exact pickup time prior to your departure.

7:15 AM – greater Jackson Hole area locations
7:30 AM – downtown Jackson locations

  • The minimum age for wildlife safaris is 8 years old. (Private safaris have no age minimum.)
  • For groups of 14 guests or less: We have a 48-hour cancellation policy for all single day safaris and a 14-day cancellation policy for all 2-3 day safaris. For multi-day safaris of 4 days or more, we have a 30-day cancellation policy. Cancellations made before the policy goes into effect will receive a full refund with no penalty. Cancellations made within the cancellation policy period will not be refunded. For groups of 15 or more guests: We have a 30-day cancellation policy. Cancellations made before the policy goes into effect will receive a refund minus a 10% fee. Cancellations made within the cancellation policy period will not be refunded. We highly recommend obtaining travel insurance before your departure to protect you from incurring any costs associated with unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from joining us.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

Wonderful tour - saw lots of wildlife, had a great lunch, and our guide was fabulous, entertaining, extremely knowledgable, and passionate. The only disappointment was that the sleigh ride was canceled without prior warning, despite there being plenty of snow still - and 8 hours was a long time to be largely confined to a van. If you can catch the tour when the sleigh rides are still available, I'd highly recommend.

My husband and I loved this tour! It was our first time in Jackson Hole, so we were excited to see the wildlife of the area. Our guide, Dave, took excellent care of us. There were snacks and drinks to enjoy throughout our tour, and he was great at sharing tons of history and trivia with us. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! The sleigh ride at the end was a fun way to see the National Elk Refuge. We would definitely recommend this trip to everyone who visits.

Jimmy was a most informative and pleasant guide for a wonderful day of touring. We saw one of the "big five": elk, buffalo, big horn sheep, eagles and moose with a spotting telescope. Sleigh ride as a highlight. Highly recommended tour!
