Itsukushima Shrine, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan Established in the 6th century, this shrine is one of Japan's finest, and is famous for its beautiful Shinden-zukuri style structure (architecture representative of a nobles' residence in the Heian period). The contrast of the green of Mount Misen behind the lacquered shrine pavilion and the blue of the Seto Sea is beautiful and evocative of the underwater palace of Ryugujo. 60 minutes
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Hiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan This large-scale park was established in 1949 after the Pacific War ended, and is visited by countless visitors as a symbol of peace. The rep came to the Sunrise Tours premises in good time, checked us in and escorted us to our boarding of the bullet train. We were met by the Sunrise Tour guide at Hiroshima station. The trip to Miyajima island by coach and a short ferry ride was uneventful.
We would have appreciated a longer period to experience the Hiroshima Peace memorial.
The free time at Miyajima could have been shortened.
We had a rather long wait at Hiroshima station complex for another group to join us. This was frustrating. The guide was very friendly and answered all of our questions satisfactorily. She, however, was very softly spoken and it was difficult to hear her at times.
In the website and on the Viator booking confirmation it should be clearly mentioned that the Kyoto Sunrise Tours premises is in the basement of the Avanti. The main entrance of Avanti Kyoto does not open till 10 and we didn’t realise that we ought to use the small entrance at the far end of the Avanti.

The trip is too long. It took about 15 hours. They take you to this Miyajima island for most of the day and then you only get to see the Peace Park and Museum for a short time. I wish they had a half day Hiroshima tour and skipped the Miyajima part or I wish I would have just gone to Hiroshima on my own. The tour guide was great though. She tried very hard to make it entertaining but the trip was just too long.
