Stunning temple seemingly suspended in a perfect setting....however Japan has a terrible problem; the “tourist trudge”. Yes, I’m one of them, but when I pay so much to visit all these wonderful heritage sights, I expect some crowd control, both quality (spitting, pushing, shouting, littering, the ubiquitous selfie stick) and quantity; (hundreds of coaches, so many bodies crushed into one space, no sense of the spiraling destruction of this experience).
As ever, no other language interpretation, so much of the nuance is lost.
I’ve chosen not to go to several sites in Kyoto after hearing reports of poorly managed crowds....it’s like the Sistine, I don’t think it’s entirely driven by greed, just a failure to make policy to curtail the unsustainable “box ticking” visitors who have no real appreciation or desire to understand theses ethereal spaces and places...
