Tondaya is a traditional Kyoto machiya house, which was registered as National Cultural heritage in 1999 and also enlisted as Structure of Landscape Importance in Kyoto in 2007. We originally started Kimono wholesale business 140 years ago, but currently, we operate Nishijin Lifestyle Museum to promote the education of traditional Kyoto lifestyle culture here in Tondaya. You can have a great experience of Japanese traditional culture, such as Kimono dressings, tea ceremony, and Machiya tour in this precious space nourished in the history of Kyoto.

This was a fabulous experience. The premises were interesting and the guides very knowledgeable. Wearing the kimono was fun and the lunch was excellent.

First time ever doing a tea ceremony. The staff are kind and friendly. Limited English do knowing Japanese is highly recommend. Still had a great time. They provide kimono for you to wear during tea ceremony and a delicious bento lunch after. The kimono is high quality and so beautiful!
