My daughter and her boy friend booked the private coffee tour. The tour exceeded our expectations! They came to our hotel on time and picked us up in a traditional of the zone Jeep Willis. We requested a bilingual translator and he was the one who came with the driver to get us.
The vey first thing he did after introducing himself was to give each one of us a bag of coffee.
Once we got to the farm. Willy introduced himself and both started telling us the history of coffee in Colombia, how to plant it, the different varieties and tons of interesting facts. We really liked that they always called us by our first name and would answer all our questions.
Ofter a while of theory and history, we headed to the coffee plantations and started collecting beans with our typical "campesino hats and ponchos". We did not collect a whole lot, but really liked the hands on experience.
Once we finished collecting about two pounds each, we headed back to the main house, in an old Suzuki, perfect to climb those steep hills. We were taken to the "Beneficiadero" were we learned about how to dry the coffee beans.
Alejandro and William were really nice and knowledgeable. The last two steps, toasting and grinding the beans were totally hands on by us and we felt that the entire process was done by us and we deserved to have that cup of coffee while talking how good it was and watching the beautiful landscape.
