    The historical documents show that the Olival neighbourhood had a cemetery nearby. Accordingly to those documents the Virtudes Garden was in a far away era, the Jewish Cemetery

Daniel, for as young as he is, has a tremendous grasp of both Portuguese history and the Jewish experience in Portugal from the Phoenicians to modern times. He was wonderful to have as our guide and we really enjoyed our tour. While there are not many remaining Jewish artifacts in Porto, Daniel arranged for us to see the remains of an Aron Kodesh that had been kept hidden inside a wall for more than 100 years after the Portuguese inquisition. Although not Jewish himself, Daniel has a strong affinity for Jewish history and Israel. He also recommended a delicious vegetarian restaurant we enjoyed very much. Well worth a few hours while visiting Porto.

Daniel was fabulous and we learned so much about the Jewish community of Porto. I especially liked being able to see the Aron Hakodesh, which now is surprisingly located inside of an old age home. Thank you, Daniel!
