Spend quality time with one of the world's most exotic animals. You trek with your own llama, who walks on a lead, at your side, while carrying your belongings in saddle bags. Llama are highly intelligent, clever animals = requiring that you get to know them (and work with them) to successfully complete your trek. The subtle 'bond' you form with your llama companion is highly rewarding. You experienced guide will help you get to know your woolly companion. Your guide will also share a range of local Kaikoura history and information, including the extraordinary effects of the 2016 earthquake (the largest ever recorded in New Zealand) You do not ride your llama.

  • The beaches are fairly flat, but have a few rocky sections.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

It was such a great activity with my 5 years old daughter who loves animals very much. We enjoyed the two hours walk, with a lovely picnic provided by Kevin. Husband was carrying our 3 years old during the walk and they both enjoyed it, too! We got to see two seals. Kevin gave us a lot of information about Kaikoura during the walk. He also taught us a lot about Llama. Highly recommend!

Our family had a tremendous day on the half tour with our guide, Kevin. We have 5 and 7 year old boys and he accommodated for them beautifully. The 5km trek was accomplished by both of them easily due to the amazing weather and the fact the walk had plenty of breaks to let the llamas graze. The scenery is amazing and we got to see seals at the colony before returning for our picnic and back to the car. Our llamas - Max, Hero and Joey - were the stars though. Beautiful creatures that you need to earn the trust of, then soak up the magic. Loved every minute hanging with them!

The owner obviously loves his llamas a great deal and he imparts that enthusiasm as the walk progresses. It is purposefully a small group so you can have in-depth conversations. The llamas were fun and personable and very easy to handle. And our friends liked the pictures better than any other part of our trip. Truly a unique and individual experience.
