We went on the guided koala tour, which we would highly recommend. The walk and drive through the sanctuary was great and we got to see both kangaroos, Cape Bareen geese and ofcourse a good handful of koalas. We were especially pleased that we got to spend a lot of time observing the koalas in their natural habitat; eating and admittedly sleeping quite a bit. Josh was extremely passionated and very friendly, so the walk was not just interesting but also very entertaining.

We were the only two at the sanctuary at that time so had our own private walk with Jim explaining in depth about the animals, their habitat , behaviours etc . We saw the effect the fires earlier in the year had impacted on the area and the animals who required the various habitats to survive. Jim pointed out a little Joey sleeping in a tree, cape barren geese, their nests and eggs that had hatched , a mob of wallabies resting in the bush etc and the various food sources used by the animals and birds . He showed us the fencing required to keep out predators which was expensive and had to be replaced after a number of yrs. Many koalas were lost in the fires and , as the only virus free survivors were very minimal it is so important to support the work that this sanctuary is doing so visitors are crucial . Be aware however the cafe and souvenir shop were also burnt in the fires so these facilities are not available at the moment
