Join our small group shore excursion from the port of Katakolon with our fully air-conditioned vehicle (minibus or coach) with skip-the-line tickets included. Drive for 45 minutes from Katakolon to Olympia with on board commentary from your guide. Upon arriving to Olympia enjoy a guided tour of the archaeological site and museum with an officially licensed English speaking tour guide. Then you will have free time to explore the modern town of Olympia before returning back to the port. We always make sure you will return to the port before "all aboard" time. The starting time of the tour is subject to the cruise ship's arrival time. If the ship for example arrives at 09:00, the tour will start at 09:30 instead of 08:30.

    In the archeological site, among several other remains of important buildings, you will see the gymnasium and the palaestra, the round Philipeion, the workshop of Phidias where the gold and ivory statue of Zeus was built, the temples of Zeus and Hera, the altar where the Olympic torch is being lit in the modern days and the ancient Olympic stadium.

  • Archaeological Museum of Olympia, Olympia, Greece
    In the archeological museum are housed all finds that were excavated from the archeological site. Bronze and clay offerings ( tripods and figurines ) , armor, vases, the tools and cup from Phidias's workshop, the gorgeous Hermes by Praxiteles, the Nike by Paeonios and the very impressive and very well preserved classical statues from the pediments of the temple of Zeus, etc.

    Your tour will continue with a totally different vibe. The modern village of Olympia is located next to the archaeological site and museum, where you can have a drink with the locals or explore the main street with its many shops where you can find everything, from jewelry and clothes to arts and crafts for you and your loved ones!

I’m not sure if I am posting this review in the right place, but I really want to give special recognition to a terrific tour, guide and driver. We took a small group excursion (on July 10, 2023) that we booked through Greektraveling.com. (but is an Olympic tour by Niki). It was called Olympic Explorers and it included a very interesting olive oil factory tour & tasting, a delicious, incredibly fresh, Greek style lunch (in the hills overlooking olive groves) and tour of the ancient Olympic site. Our tour guide, Zoe, was exceptional!!!! She has such a vast knowledge of all things related to the tour and an undeniable love for the land and her town. She has first hand knowledge of the Olive industry, being a working member of her family’s olive farm. She was utterly captivating when sharing her knowledge and the history of each stop along the tour. She brought everything to life for us! Our driver, Joanna (spelling?) was friendly and navigated expertly. The vehicle was spacious, spotless and had great air conditioning! The tour was beautifully paced for my husband and I, both age 68 and with knee and back issues. There was time to rest, relax and cool off. Truly a memorable experience!
