This day tour of Yakushima was a highlight of two weeks in Japan. I’d especially wanted to see the moss forest in Shiratani - only to arrive in Yakushima just ahead of a typhoon that forced the closing of most of the trail. Jun came up with two alternative options and the day couldn’t have been better. If anything, the rain engorged rivers and waterfalls were all the more beautiful, and we had the park almost entirely to ourselves. Jun is experienced, incredibly knowledgeable and attentive - as well as a genuinely great guy to hang out with. Highly recommend!

天気はやや雲り。暑くも寒くもなく天候は良好。安房川河口近くの橋の下に集合したのが１３時。インストラクター１名，中年の御夫婦１組の全部で４人。インストラクターに３０分ほどカヤックの扱い方を指導してもらった。みんなある程度の経験者だったので，一番操船が難しい。上流にある左真横からの支流による強い流れも３人とも１発で通過できた。初心者の中には流されて超えられなかったら横転する人もいるようだ。大きな橋の下をくぐりカヤックで行ける２ｋｍ上流でUターンし，砂地に上陸してインストラクターさんにコヒーとオヤツを用意してもらった。その後元の場所に戻り，片づけを済ませて車を出発させたのが１７時だった。
