Munnar Tea Trail Tour with Factory Experience ( By Munnar Info)

We had a great experience with the tea plantation tour. Raj was an excellent tour guide and he helped us take excellent pictures. Munnar info was able to help arrange an excellent driver named Solomon from our hotel which was about an hour from the tour. Solomon was one of the best drivers we had on those mountain roads. We appreciated munnar info for their good communication throughout the tour booking process.

My tour guide Marimuthu was was well informed expert in his field and even helped me take pictures as a solo traveller to remember the experience. Only downside is that the tour states that you will be able to make your own tea, however this did not happen at any point

As in the experience description, this was a two part experience - a walking tour inside a tea plantation and a tea factory tour. The first part of the experience was at the Lockhart tea plantation, where the guide Marimuthu was on time. It was a beautiful sunny and warm day (wish we had taken a hat). The walking tour was almost for 3 hours. Muthu did a great job of providing an overview of Munnar, the tea plantations, tea pickers, etc. This was definitely worth it since we go to visit a heritage plantation that is not open to everyone. Be ready to hike (moderate level difficulty), carry water. At the two hour mark, Muthu had opened a thermos/flask and poured fantastically brewed black tea and served us while we enjoyed it sitting on a rock overlooking the plantation. After the tea plantation tour, Muthu drove us to the Lockhart tea factory (1-1.5km; 10 - 12 mins) in his auto rickshaw. At the Lockhart tea factory: this portion of the tour was conducted by the employees of the Lockhart tea factory. This is an excellent part of the experience, given it is an orthodox tea processing facility. The tour lasts for about 30-45 minutes and ends with a tasting experience of around 10 teas with an option to purchase teas in their outlet. Highly recommend you purchase as many as you like, as these teas are all exported and is not sold anywhere in India except at that very outlet and Amazon. The one aspect I thought I could have done differently was to book the same experience with the same operator (Munnarinfo dot in) directly on their website for a much lesser price than TripAdvisor. Disclaimer: I don’t own this business nor do I receive any benefit by mentioning this. Munnar Info provides the same tea trail experience and tea tour tickets for a total of Rs 1,000 or $12.20. The tea factory tour alone costs Rs 500 (if you are a foreigner; much lesser for Indian nationals) which is inclusive in the Trip Advisor price of ~$20/head or approx. Rs 1650. Recommend you buy only the tea trail experience through Munnar Info and buy the Lockhart Tea Factory tour by yourself at the tea factory. If you rather have everything done and purchase a single ticket in the convenience of your home through TripAdvisor which has an Apple Pay option, then TA is your premium convenience option.
