When I was planning for Kilimanjaro, I had this idea that I wanted to write something new every day. In my return I realized I had written no more than one line the entire week.
The mountain had proposed many challenges, some face problems with the altitude, others with colds and stomach aches (Don’t worry you will be fine though). Just go to Exceed Expectations Tours Company and everything will be okay.
The day began with my mountain and as much as I love to write but there was no time for that. Just begin “the mountain does not care about you , our guider would say” When your body was most in the pain, the mountain gave you more rocky terrain and when you needed break the most, the slight sign of sunset forced you to push on.
The mountain does not care about you that is true but if you take care of yourself, the rocky terrain is no more than an adventure ‘Pole pole’ was the key. Hiking through the nights in fresh snow with the stars seemingly becoming closer and closer with every minute passing is what dreams are made off.
What I remember most is my friends offering me sweets that I then shared with Joseph, our summit night guide. Just as tiredness was about to take us light started flooding in and the magical beauty, unlike any sight you could ever imagine appeared just beyond that final hill.
On our way down from the mountain I asked our lead guider Henry if summiting ever got easy, he said ‘no, but it’s the feeling that anyone will wish to live with and that why I kept going every day.
Our 5 days to Marangu route also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, were finally over and we back to Moshi town and shop few things ready to go back home later -on that night.
