Just a short distance from Krakow lies the 932 mile (1,500 km) Wooden Architecture Route—a collection of 200 structures including churches, belfries, granaries, cottages, and houses. Remarkably well-preserved, this region gives a fascinating glimpse into the local culture of Polish village life. The tour goes through selected sites located in the Kraków vicinity: the picturesque village of Lanckorona with romantic buildings situated around the market, a manor house in Stryszów located at the foot of Mount Chełm, and Wygiełzów Heritage Park, where you can find homesteads with orchards and floral gardens, as well as a church with a bell tower, all set in the beautiful countryside.

The area of over 5 hectares comprises 25 examples of wooden architecture, which mainly represent the architecture of the Western Cracovians. The rural cottages and facilities, such as a smithy or an oil mill, have partially reconstructed furnishings, and the entire complex is complemented by various examples of landscape architecture, such as chapels or wells. The larch manor house of the Bzowski family from Droginia (from 1730) is the highlight of the park. Inside, the appearance of a typical gentry residence from the 19th century has been partly reconstructed. You will see: Complex of small-town buildings and the impressive church from Ryczów (1623); The larch manor house of the Bzowski family from Droginia (from 1730); Town house from Chrzanów (from 1804); Granary from Kościelec (from 1798); The magnificent cottage of the village administrator from Przeginia Duchowna (from 1862).

    Life under the arcades of the wooden houses passes slowly. Lanckorona still retains a small town atmosphere, which was typical of Małopolska towns. For this reason it has become popular, especially with artists, as a place for summer holidays. We will walk with a guide in a picturesque, atmospheric small Lanckorona and take a break in one of the cozy cafes. You will see: Lovely market square; The historic houses stand around the market square in Lanckorona; Siwek Bakery - this family bakery is a phenomenon - it is slowly approaching the 100th anniversary of its operation!
