Nikko is a town at the entrance to Nikko National Park, most famous for Toshogu, Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Nikko is a peaceful respite, and as such, it is one of most iconic places to visit in the North Kanto region. Nikko is well-known for its natural beauty, from verdant forests, rolling hills and breathtaking waterfalls to raging rivers, streams and a beautiful lake. Tour duration is approx 10 hours including commuting time.     Toshogu Shrine is the most famous sightseeing attraction in Nikko and is popular for its many colorful buildings which are richly decorated with gorgeous carvings. The shrine is dedicated to the spirit of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543 – 1616), and it is also the location of his grave.

Our guide David was very friendly and keen to help in whatever way he could and it was nice to have an air-conditioned car to travel to Nikko. If you want a friendly local to take you where you want to go it was perfect. We did feel it was very expensive though as David didn't know the history of the area or was able to provide any background to the sights we visited, we needed to rely on our guidebook. The itinerary was also ambitious for the day and we didn't get to visit everything on the list, so choose the top 3 sights you want to see and start with those. It wasn't an informative tour, but Nikko is a beautiful spot and we were grateful not to have to navigate public transport.

The driver, Bukhari Syed Suleman spoke very bad English, was half an hour late. He was supposed to pick us up at 8:00. 8:04 we got a message that he was late.... He said that he had been to Nikko before, but it didn't feel like it. Unsure of where we should go to get entrance tickets, etc. Couldn't tell us anything about the area. Lots to see at Nikko but this trip was definitely not worth 650 USD! Feels like a scam company!

Newton was very knowledgeable. He has a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor He gave interesting historical backgrounds about all that we visited.
