    The small town of Orta San Giulio is a one of the top destinations for tourists visiting our region. A favourite place for romantic souls, the village is a maze of picturesque streets and little squares with craft boutiques, antique shops and lively cafés. At the center of the town you will find Piazza Motta, pulsating heart of the life of the village, from which the connections for the Island of San Giulio begin; it overlooks the Broletto or Palace of the Community (on the facade you can admire the city crest), in which in the Middle Ages the power was exercised. In front of the Broletto begins an uphill road called 'Motta' from which you reach the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta (1485).

Giulia was very knowledgeable of the history and share a few stories regarding the saints and the families that lived during 15th & 16th centuries. She also recommended places to visit outside of Orta San Giulio that we were interested in exploring.

Cosa dire di orta san giulio. Un paese fra i piu belli in italia. Si possono visitare i suoi vicoli, fermarsi a mangiare o dissetarsi fare un giro in barca all'isola san giulio che e' proprio di fronte, salire e visitare il sacro monte con le sue chiese e i panorami poi scendere fino a villa crespi prendere il trenino e tornare al parcheggio

Giulia was excellent guide. Good English explanations. Knows shortcuts and boats. Orta and island pleasant but crowded on Sunday.
