If visiting Ethiopia, include the cooking class at the top of your list. This is one of my favorite memories from my first visit to Ethiopia. Yes I made injera. I was also made feel like an immediate part of the family. They know the area well and will enrich your visit in many memorable ways. I will always make a visit to the cooking school a part of my visits to Ethiopia.

Me and my friends had a great time with Abachew he took as to the country side for farming tour and we experience the country side life STYLE. our guide Abachew was excellent and knowledgeable.
After we came back to lalibela we learned to cook Ethiopian food at lalibela cooking and tours . We make 6 different dishes and we got to each make our own injera. We also learned how to roast coffee beans. The food turned out great! We definitely recommend this class if you want to learn to cook Ethiopian food!

Ethiopia has a rich history and culture. By exploring that culture, you automatically encounter the typical Ethiopian cuisine and related ceremonies. In the beautiful region of Lalibela, we had an opportunity to attend the “Cookery School”. That was a fascinating experience. My wife Kristin and I really enjoyed the typical Ethiopian hospitality offered by Ambachew and his wife Fikert.
They explained us “from A to Z” the Injera baking-process and how Shiro is prepared. Shiro is of course indispensable when eating Injera. We obtained detailed explanations on the differences between Bozena and Tegabino Shiro, Injera Firfir and Siga Firfir, etc. Moreover, we had the occasion to taste our “own-cooked” Injera and Shiro in a cosy environment.
A dinner amongst Ethiopians cannot possibly end without the typical coffee-ceremony. After crushing and roasting the coffee beans, we enjoyed the best coffee of the world (in my humble opinion).
Are you looking for a very nice distraction between all your other planned activities in Lalibela? In that case we can surely recommend the Cookery School offered by Ambachew and Fikert. They are amongst the kindest people we ever met in Ethiopia.
