Prompt pick up, nice spacious van and easy drive. Taking away one star (really half star, but not an option) because parking was a hike away from the airport. Down the ramp, up the elevator, another 5 min walk to the farthest parking bay. Not easy with 2 carts of luggage.

Cicar is a brilliant car rental company located on all of the Canary Islands, which I have used on several occasions. They provide excellent cars, almost new in most cases with comprehensive insurance and no hidden charges with very competitive rates. They retain your details on file so a new booking is made very easy. They have given me a free upgrade to a bigger car with automatic transmission on a number of occasions. They even give you credit for unused fuel which is very rare in this market. No nonsense on car return also which is made quickly and easy. I couldn’t recommend this company highly enough. Just a cautionary tale however completely unrelated to this company. I didn’t take my satnav on this holiday but chose to rely on Google Maps on my iPhone - a major mistake ! While this had worked fine for me in Tenerife and Gran Canaria in the past; unfortunately the mobile phone signal in Lanzarote picked up by my iPhone was not of sufficient quality to drive Google Maps. As we left the confines of the airport which obviously had wifi, Google Maps stopped working which left me in great difficulty as it was dark night at this time. The moral of this story is ‘bring your satnav’ especially if the car you are hiring doesn’t have one fitted. There was a solution however which was delivered to me the following day by my son in law from home, Google Maps has a facility for use ‘off line’ which can be engaged in its settings. Knowledge is everything!
