I spent a very special Day taking a private tour with Nuno of Sophia tours.He picked me up at my Lisbon hotel and we headed to Fatima, where he patiently waited while I lit a remembrance candle. I learned later that a typical Fatima tour ends with visiting the church and square but because I showed interest in the stories surrounding the seeing of the apparition of Our Lady he took me to the real town of Fatima where I was surrounded by living history and visited a unique cemetery. I asked to stop at Batalha monastery, which, in retrospect I would have skipped. On to Nazare, hoping for those elusive big beach waves. No waves but beautiful photos and a delicious lunch. Obidos is a town I would like to spend more time, next trip! What can I say about Nuno?? His knowledge of not only Portuguese but world history and religion coupled with his willingness to share is truly his gift. I was nervous on a 1:1 tour that we would have nothing to talk about all day but boy, was I wrong! If you want a tour that includes history or to chat about the current Portuguese way of life , economy or government I highly recommend Nuno. It was a great day!
