    This Marian pilgrimage center evokes the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta, which occurred in 1917 and recognized in 1930. The place was a rural property, called Cova da Iria, and belonged to Lúcia's parents, who sponsored it to the sanctuary. It was here that five of the six apparitions took place. The Sanctuary includes the Chapel of Apparitions, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Prayer Room and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity. Complementing the Sanctuary are the Retreat Houses of Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Paul VI Pastoral Center. It is one of the most important Marian shrines belonging to the Catholic Church in the world and one of the main international destinations for religious tourism, receiving around six million visitors per year. It was visited by Popes Paul VI (1967), John Paul II (1982, 1991 and 2000), Benedict XVI (2010) and Francis (2017 and 2023).

I enjoyed this day trip with Anastasia. It was our 2nd tour with her and I highly recommend her. She relates a wealth of information and anecdotes about the landmarks thst you see that they come alive in your mind. She is also very personable and friendly. I did not feel my best in the afternoon, she made sure to stop at a pharmacy and translate my symptoms to the pharmacist and when we returned to the vehicle after wandering in the castle, she had bought me a bottle of carbonated water which I appreciated very much. Fatima is a must stop for any catholic. It’s like the Vatican of Portugal. Enjoyed seeing the children’s homes which are preserved as they were. The monastery in Batallia was amazing. The light reflected onto the giant columns through the stained glass. Loved our stop in Nazare, despite the fact that I wasn’t at my best. The sight of the village and ocean is always good for the soul. The castle was a fun stop at the end of the tour. Always amazed how they were able to build such structures so long ago. In summary, I highly recommend this tour.

Our day with Anastasia as our guide has been a highlight of our Portugal vacation. As our private guide, she drove us to Fatima, the village and homes of the three children who saw the apparition in 1917, then to an amazing neo-Gothic monastery, to Nazare and Obidos. She introduced us to each experience and allowed plenty of time to fully absorb what we were seeing. We highly recommend Anastasia for this memorable tour.

Fantastic tour! Chose a private tour so we could take our time and choose what we wanted to do. It was well worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of of time to explore in our own. Would highly recommend recommend this tour
