  • Park and National Palace of Pena, Sintra, Portugal
    Start your tour with the journey to Sintra. Visit Pena Park, where you will be amazed by the variety of trails, trees and other plants. Next, feel like Portuguese royalty as you enter the romantic Pena National Palace at the top of Sintra Mountain. See the Great Triton, the guardian of the palace, inspired by Manueline art. Inside the palace, admire the attention to detail in the bedrooms of the king and queen and the Arab Room.

  • Centro Historico de Sintra, Sintra, Portugal
    Leave the palace and follow your guide to the historical center of Sintra, where you’ll have free time to explore the town, you can visit the Sintra National Palace on your own, where the Portuguese royalty of the 15th and 16th centuries used to spend the summer months (own expense) or have a drink and a snack (own expense). Try a travesseiro or a queijada, two delicious local pastries.

    Free time for lunch and to wander around the centre of Cascais, a former fishing village and today a popular holiday spot. Follow your guide through narrow alleyways and see the traditional Portuguese white houses or enjoy some time relaxing at the beach.

This tour was a mixed bag. Our guide, Tomas, was knowledgeable, courteous, and fun to travel with. The tour gets you to Peña Palace early which is good. Tomas guided us through the grounds and did an excellent job of explaining the history of this wonderful site. Upon leaving the palace you go to Sintra. There you are encouraged to try the local pastry which entails standing in line for most of your visit. When you leave Sintra you head to lunch! The food was excellent, but you have eaten breakfast, pastry, and now lunch before 1:00pm. Now you head to land’s end before heading to Cascais where you are encouraged to try the ice cream. I’m certain many people will enjoy this tour, but it seems the tour wasted a very knowledgeable guide, beautiful countryside, and perfect weather on a food tour.

This trip was so fun! We met some hilarious ladies from Scotland and Ireland. Thomas was a great tour guide. We did the chicken dance after a delicious lunch he recommended to us. I will never forget what an armillary sphere is!
