Igreja de Sao Francisco, Evora, Portugal It is a church of Gothic-Manueline architecture. Built between 1480 and 1510 by masters of Pedraria Martim Lourenço and Pero de Trilho and decorated by the royal painters Francisco Henriques, Jorge Afonso and Garcia Fernandes, it is closely linked to the historical events that marked the period of maritime expansion in Portugal. This is evident in the symbols of the monumental nave of the vaulting vault: the cross of the Order of Christ and the emblems of the founding kings, D. João II and D. Manuel I.
According to tradition, Gil Vicente was buried in this church in 1536.

Capela dos Ossos, Evora, Portugal The chapel was built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the place of the primitive dormitory of the friars. Its construction was based on the initiative of three Franciscan friars who wanted to provide a better reflection on the brevity of human life. The chapel consists of bones from the graves of the convent church and other churches and cemeteries in the city. The walls and part of the vaults of the chapel are covered with thousands of human bones, which illustrate the idea of the founding monks, expressed in the phrase above the porch of the chapel: We bone that we are here, for your hope.

George made our trip really great! The winery with the food hit the spot for us. I also appreciated the sights of Evora and the cork factory where we bought a bunch of souvenirs.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. Jorge pick us up at Bairro Alto Hotel, punctual, respectful and super hospitable. The vehicle was inmaculate, water was supplied and he was very informative throughout the trip to Evora. The Cork Factory was very interesting, it is a family run company with quite interesting history and products. Wines at Sierves were very intriguing and great for dining. Carlos our host was very accomodating and showed us two more wines that were not in the list but were not added to the bill. I LOVE WINES and was very impressed by his knowledge and prime service. Trip to Evora included a short stop for traditional portuguese pork lunch, which was very tasty and spicy and we headed for Evoras tourist attractions. The bone chapel was mesmerizing. We have seen Rome's Bone Chapels but this is bigger and freakier, kids would love it. We got back to the hotel 11 hrs later, which seemed like less but well worth it. I even gave Jorge a bottle of wine as a thank you/fairwell gift. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR TRUE WINE LOVERS AND GLOBETROTTERS.
