Don’t miss out on the trendy bookstore Ler Devagar located on a former royal chapel, the 1300-year-old Muslim castle, the old Moorish and Jewish quarters, the superb “pietá” of renaissance master Nicolau de Chanterene and the works of the celebrated XVII century painter Josefa de Óbidos, the first Portuguese female artist to get to the Louvre. Learn about how the queens of Portugal had a major role in the history of this "Town of the Queens". Among them, is celebrated Queen Leonor de Avis, famous for creating the oldest surviving hospital and relief network in the world: “Holy House of Mercy”. She was called the “Most Perfect Queen”.

    Our tale will have two hours walking through the amazing medieval Óbidos village. We will start at the village main gate, and then we will discover amazing narrow streets outside of the beaten track. After i will share with you the secret Jewish neighborhod and their white painted houses with some great spots to take some pictures. Then we will taste the amazing and local Ginjinha, a sour cherry liqueur at mister António house, but this one is full of flavours without any additions. Along the way we will see some ancient sculptures and details that do not come in the touristic guides!

    We will visit this church where you will see some Portuguese tiles work from the 17th and 18th century, five paintings of the famous Portuguese painter Josefa de Óbidos (from the 17th century).

This a medieval walled town not to be missed Walk the walls and gaze at the roof tops inside the walls and when you reach the end call into the restored castle hotel and take in a meal or just a drink. Pretty flowers adorn the tiny houses in the narrow streets. An aqueduct can be seen disappearing into the distance now redundant after hundreds of years used. Close by a windmill you will see this from the fortified walls.

Spend a calm and amazing day in this place with a guide that'll let you know the history behind the walls. Tip: Be brave and march the high path around the village.
