I booked a car for 5 passengers and fortunately there were only 4 of us so it was big enough. The car was new, clean and airconditioned. The driver was there early.
We arrived at the port of Lembar in Lombok. There is very little to see or do in Lembar if you are on foot but fortunately, we had our car and driver booked.
Our driver spoke virtually no English, but I was able to hire a guide for 5 hours from among the crowd waiting at the port. Probably the best $20USD I have ever spent.
We visited a potter's workshop- beautiful ridiculously over-priced products. A fixed-price department store called Sa Saku full of good quality affordable memorabilia (total highlight) and then a large, air-conditioned mall. Had lunch at the mall, returned to the ship via the Grand Mosque which was very impressive and a Hindu Water Temple which was interesting but less overwhelming. Then back to Lembar.
If you have to get around Lombok and want to visit places which are far apart this is a very good choice.
