Big Bus London Open-Top Evening Tour

We used to tour with Big Bus in many different cities, but London was a complete scam. The first bus in the morning arrived 8min prior to the schedule and left. We were crossing the street (our hotel is literally on the other side of the bus stop), but the driver left before we made it to the other side. So we had to wait for 35min for the next bus. By this time no Big Bus representative was present. He arrived 15min later. I asked him for directions to change for the red line to stop 17 and the representative told us to go off at 13 and to walk to 17 - which makes absolutely no sense, because stop 17 is before 13. So he didn’t even know what he was talking about. At stop 17 we waited for the Red Line, which is advertised as “every 10-20min”. We waited for 45min and it was absolutely packed. I asked the driver where to hop off to see the Changing of the Guards and he told me - after long time thinking - stop 22 would be best. Great! The only thing is the roads get closed and he doesn’t even stop at 21, 22, 23, 24! No announcements. No information. Surprise - you are not there where you wanted to go, but you can walk all the way back and hope you make it on time. After that we found the blue line and drove all the way to Piccadilly. Something must have happened and the road to stop 12 was closed. You would think they go back to their original route and next would be stop 13. But no, not Big Bus. They kicked us off the bus, explained the walking route we had to take which was about 10min walk. And yes, we were standing at stop 13 for another 40min waiting on the Green route. When this bus finally arrived the driver decided to take a break after 2 stops. We were still far away from St. Pancras and had enough of waiting and staying around for Big Buses. We saw multiple other tour providers different lines multiple times while we were waiting for our busses. Go with all the other red tour busses or Toot Bus. Bug Bus has not enough busses on the street and they do not communicate with you at all! I feel scammed and ripped off.

My husband and I took the 48 hour hop-on-hop off tour with the night tour included, hoping to see the major sights of London. Unfortunately, the traffic, even in May, was so bad that the bus sat at the same stop lights through several cycles and it took forever to get from one sight to the next. Once we did pass by a point of interest, there was often nothing to see but the trees or buildings in front of of the pint of interest, or we passed by so quickly that there was no time to see what we came to see. There was not really enough time to hop off and back on at more than maybe 2 stops because of how long it took to get through traffic. We were able to see more by walking and taking the tube. We were hoping to see the lights of London at night on the night tour, but the tour began about an hour before it got dark out, so it ended at dark. We saw very little of the lights of London, and basically had a repeat of the daytime tour. Additionally, the tour commentary was recoded, not live, so it was not always describing what we were seeing, it was more of a history of London. The bus drivers that we experienced were also not particularly friendly or helpful. If one were mobility challenged, it would be difficult to walk around London or use the tube, so perhaps this would be a way to see some of London? I would not recommend the Hop-On-Hop-Off tour for London.
