My son and I joined Aidan for the Soho Punk Rock Walking Tour and it was a blast. Some of the locations I had visited on my own while others I would not know about since the venues have long changed hands and names, and it was an absolute treat hearing from someone who experienced the birth of the UK punk scene as it happened. It was also interesting to learn about how some of the stories that have percolated over the years were pure fiction. I would consider myself a bit of a punk rock historian, despite being more rooted in the American scenes, I grew up loving the Pistols and Clash and the other acts of this time period and I learned more than my fair share.
The walking on the tour is very reasonable and the amount of information presented at each stop is top notch, along with period photos of the venues as they were back nearly 50 years ago. Friday afternoon tour was perfect way to spend the afternoon before dinner and a show. And while it's part of the tour I also carved out some time to window shop Denmark Street. I look forward to doing the Strummer Walk or another tour on my next visit.
