I never done a cruise before so was very excited was a bit worried as i could not find many videos of this ship but the videos i did find looked very dated and made a long time ago. They are an exact representation of the ship dated. i was on a 7 day cruise and there was not much cruising which was very enjoyable when it happened and took lots of photos, your cabin with the great big window spent most of the time closed as we were docked most of the time and we were docked next to a row of other ships , the staff on board were very inviting on the first day and evening then we got forgotten even when we were seated right in front of the bar in the end we had to get or own drinks and then suddenly very remembered us and jumped out with a bill. The food was not very nice and it didn't change vey much through out the week most dishes were luke warm or cold due to very one leaving the lids open the the person behind to get the food. We were seated on a damaged seat and when we asked if we could be moved due to the seat the table was pushed down a bit so we was only half in the damage. The TV in the room was absolutely terrible fussy picture and from talking to other guested thats how they all were but the TV in the main lobby worked perfectly. The top deck was the saving grace of the ship but it did not have enough loungers for everybody to lounge and sun bathe you found if you didn't get there early you were sitting not lounging while sun bathing not good
Luxor, Edfu, komombo, Aswan, Luxor in a week. Guided visits to temples of luxor, Karnak, valley of the kings, Hatshepsut, Edfu, Komombo, Aswan dams, Nubian village etc.
DO do this trip if you want good clean air conditioned accommodation on board, comfortable cabin, small but functional bathroom with good water pressure, wide ranging food to suit most tastes, plenty of space to relax on the sun deck, shaded or not, plunge pool for cooling off, and, very importantly very helpful, friendly and unfailingly cheerful staff, and of course, to see the wonderful sights along the way.
DON’T do this trip if you can’t do without five star accommodation. It’s not. A little jaded in parts, but still fine. You won’t find fillet steaks & ‘cheffy’ presentation on board, but the range and quality of freshly prepared tasty dishes more than compensates. DON’T do this trip if you can’t cope with changes to timescales, some delays and a lack of certainty or punctuality - these might be frequent but in my view do not detract from a good trip. Everything WAS fitted in, and somehow, it just works. I might think twice about taking this trip if I’d suffered from a lung condition, as the air quality along the Nile was very poor throughout - heavy palls of diesel fumes/dust/industrial chimneys/burning of cane fields & waste plastics along the banks was such that it could be TASTED at times. Visibility was often poor as a consequence of this and the pollution affected eyes and throats. A shame. But might be different at other times of the year.
Opportunities to experience the Nile temples were very good - early mornings were repaid with fewer crowds and avoidance of the heat of the day. Guide was excellent (Ahmed). Added very significantly to the enjoyment of this trip for us.
Tipping is expected AT THE END of the trip, an amount to be shared amongst all staff & crew - those we see and those we don’t. Difficult to gauge the appropriate level, but we settled (in consultation with fellow travellers) on an amount of around 2000 Egyptian £ per couple ( £55-58) for the week.
Bear in mind that extra charges are made for water (about 40 Egyptian £ a bottle), (I guess you could bring that on board with you), and any drinks - beer, wine etc. these can add up but are not unreasonable prices, and we found Egyptian wine & beer very (too?)palatable!
Be prepared for hawkers, including children, at every point - even while under way along the river. Ashore they are very persistent, but not aggressive. Walk fast and they can’t keep up!
Very nearly deterred by some reviews from taking a trip on the Radamis 2, we’re pleased we were not. All in all this was a very good trip! Our appetite for further Egyptian trips has been whetted.
