There are various means of getting from Hanoi to Sapa. The most popular way to travel from Hanoi to Sapa is to either choose between an overnight sleeper train or choosing the express bus option. In the past, most everyone recommended the train because the bus ride was long and miserable. But that all changed in 2014 when Vietnam officially opened to the Hanoi – Lao Cai Expressway. This is a brand new highway that goes directly from Hanoi to Lao Cai (the town at the bottom of Sapa’s mountain – the same place the train ends up).

    The best services and the bus in Vietnam. My family enjoy and love it. Bus hanoi to sapa, we requested they pick up from noi bai airport.

    If I had to do the trip again I would chose this sleeper bus for both ways. The bus was a little odd with two levels of reclined bunks and not much room other than in your seat. The bunks were adjustable but didn't quite sit upright. All in all they were very comfortable even over the very bumpy vietnamese highways. There were several bathroom breaks at roadside stops. Be warned there is a small cash fee to use some of the bathrooms. Temperature and lighting was adjustable in your own space making it nice to relax, sleep, or listen to a podcast. There was even wifi on the bus, although the performance was spotty at times. Only thing I would add is a way to charge your phone at your seat.
