On November 20, 2022 we took the Lyttelton Shuttle from the port to its first stop in the township (as instructed). Contrary to their instructions nobody from Leisure Tours Company was there to greet/direct us. Unfortunately, it was raining very heavily and we got soaked while waiting for about 5 minutes. Out of desperation a few of us decided to walk about a block away through puddles of water where we found the tour buses. Most of the first 2+ hours of the Christchurch vicinity tour was a waste of time as the rainy weather precluded anybody from seeing any scenery beyond 70-100 yards. There was a brief pause in the rain, however, which allowed a quick 15-20 minute stroll through the Botanic Gardens, which was very nice. Midway through the tour we were offered the opportunity to abandon the remainder of the tour and return to our cruise ship, which the majority gladly accepted. So, we skipped our visit to the Wildlife Reserve which we anticipated was to be the highlight of this tour. Unlike this tour company, similar excursions provided through Celebrity Cruise Line that day canceled their excursions and provided refunds due to the inclement weather.

The tour guide displayed no energy in his job, and we drove by the same sights’ multiple times. We were dropped off with two-hours free-time, and not even told what’s around the area where we were dropped. The highlight of the tour was the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, which was quite enlightening.
